Karahan Pension
at Barhal, Yusufeli,
Artvin, NE Turkey is situated between the dramatic Kackar and Karagöl Mountain ranges in the centre of a National Park deep in the Pontic Alps, some 34 kilometers north of Yusufeli. The pension has a reputation for a friendly family welcome, for good food and provides accommodation for up to 40 visitors.
The price per person per night includes a
room with toilet and shower, evening meal
and breakfast. Please note that there are no facilities for camping or cooking at
the pension.
Within a stone’s
throw of the pension is the famous monastery site of Parhali (Barhal)
In fact all that survives of the monastery today is the church which you can see from the upper terrace, and two hermitage chapels built on the north facing slope of the valley opposite the pension.
The scenery is spectacular and consists of steep-sided valleys covered with deciduous and coniferous vegetation. Water from rivers and springs is in abundance. Paths lead past large moraine rocks across timber bridges to small alpine villages and cold lakes. a group of tourists trekking
to Barhal Karagöl.
Here the grass meadows are cropped twice a year for animal food during the winter.
